It’s been another week and we’re all a little older, in fact, my license says I’m a whole year older since my birthday was Wednesday…
I tend to reflect a little when I have a birthday, deep stuff like:
How was the last year? How do I feel (mentally and physically)? Am I happy? What should I be doing differently?
Yikes, that’s a lot to dive into for my 43rd year on this planet.
In short, it was a trying year…I feel better today than I did yesterday…YES, I’m very happy…I should be taking better care of my body, but that is something I’ve already taken steps to rectify.
Now that I’m 43 and entering my 44th trip around the sun, I can’t wait to push forward with this crazy life of creating I’ve chosen!
First up…
Since I don’t have enough on my plate, I’m adding a title to my multi-hyphenate resume:
I’ve been working for a few years with my friend Joel Rodriguez at Metal Ninja Studios in various capacities (editor, publisher, writer, whatever needs to be done guy), but now I’ve added a new title - Chief Creative Officer.

I’ll be helping mold the creative direction of most projects MNS works on and guiding creators who have never made comics before from Concept to Comic (more on this in the future).
The program scratches a lot of itches in a creative aspect. It’s also rewarding to see the faces of creators who get that first look at the script or the finished product of something they never thought was possible, like…
On this project, we helped an author turn his novel into a comic. From breaking down the book, scripting, hiring artists, lettering, and creating a finished comic - we took this project from one medium to a completely new one.
For this project, I wrote the script off Dan Silverthorne’s source material, with art by Samir Simao, colors by Ezequiel Cataldo, and letters by Cristian Docolomansky.
Meet Johnny
Johnny is a former EMT turned body runner. It’s an easy gig—delivering corpses.
When the dead die, a body runner comes to collect them. That's Johnny. He picks up the freshly deceased and takes them to the local morgue or funeral home. He signs the dotted lines and speeds off to the next gig.
Any job can weigh on you...
Even steady money can be dead weight...
So, what's a young and hungry body runner to do when the corpses in his rig start telling stories?
Sounds interesting, right? It’s currently funding on Kickstarter…

Speaking of Kickstarter…
We’re about a week and 200 backers into the Stake #7 campaign and approaching our first stretch goal for a cool magnet with that image above!
What’s even cooler? This awesome print you get if you back both Stake and Chainsaw Johnny!
You’re seeing this first here! So go back both campaigns and get this cool Roman Gubskii print!

Whew…that’s a lot going on, but just the tip of the iceberg. Yes, there’s still more to share with you, but not today!
I’ll be back soon with more fun updates!
