Now on Substack! Stake update, Canceled, and more!
David gets Canceled, Stake TP hitting shelves soon, and FUTURAMA!
I’m back, baby!
If you’ve been here for awhile, you’ve seen me say that before.
It’s been a little while since I’ve sent out a newsletter, and a lot has happened.
Since the last update I sent out, I’ve migrated to Substack. It’s a pretty nice platform that centralizes updates and may lead to a paid subscription version that allows me to offer you some cool perks and exclusives (what do you want to see?).
Let’s get on with the updates!
Stake TP is coming out!
I released the first Stake preview in December of 2018, followed by an ashcan in the spring of 2019. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears, went into these 6 issues with Angel and Jessamy and the collected edition is finally printed!
The trade turned out amazing. We made it through five artists, two versions of the first issue, a pandemic, and paper shortages, but it’s finally real!
In the next few weeks, it will be available in comic shops and bookstores all over the country - if you can’t find it, message me and I’ll point you in the right direction!
Rumor has it, I’m being Canceled
Ok, maybe I’m not actually getting canceled, but I do have a new book coming out in April: Black Caravan Premiere: David Byrne’s Canceled.
“From the writer of Stake comes the first Black Caravan Premiere title, Canceled! When washed-up kids show host Larry finds himself replaced by Cruncho the Clown, he tries to destroy the local town television tower, but instead gets himself electrocuted...and sucked into the airwaves. Canceled crosses four eras with four different artists with unique styles including Pabliku Man, Renan Balmonte, Medmanga, and Nick Justus and incentive covers from Ed Bickford and Zu Orzu!”
I had a ton of fun working on this piece and the reaction has been amazing. There’s going to be a slew of amazing covers from retailers with some insanely talented artists. Pre-order it now from you local comic shop!
Stake Artist Francesca Fantini is in America!
If you follow us on socials, this isn’t really news, but Francesca has been in the states since November and we’ve gotten to do a number a fun appearances, meeting new fans and old.
That’s us at Orlando Toy and Comic Con a few weeks ago, if you’d like to meet us (and Jonathan Hedrick) we’ll be at Emerald City Comics in Clearwater, FL next Saturday Feb 19 from 11:00 - 2:00PM. Come and see us why don’t ya?
Right now we’re working diligently on completing Stake Presents: Jessamy #2 to fulfill the Kickstarter and get cracking on issue 3!
DID YOU HEAR???
If you know me, you know why this is the best news I’ve heard all year. It’s a little bittersweet right now as John DiMaggio is not signed to return for the voice of Bender. I think they’ll get a deal done, I HOPE they do…PLEASE GET A DEAL DONE!
Futurama is my favorite show of all time. The news that it’s being revived at Hulu next year, as I watch it straight through again for the millionth time, fills my heart.
If you’ve never watched it, you should.
Getting a little personal
I try not to get too personal publicly, but I feel like this is something I need to share.
I got COVID back in December and I’m still fighting the brain fog of the “long COVID.” It’s no fun, but everyone has been really patient with me and I’m doing what I can. Regular tasks are a lot harder than they have been, but I’ll get through this. Please take care of yourselves, it’s no joke. If you can do anything to protect yourself from this virus, please do, it hits everyone differently.
Maybe this time I won’t go months between updates? :P
We’ll see…
Until then, stay tuned, lots of great stuff is coming this year, including a lot of appearances and new work!
David
PS: My good friend Travis is running an awesome Kickstarter for a very personal story to him called Granite State Punk.
